OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Dodgers evened the series at a game apiece as they squeaked past the San Antonio Missions 4-3 Friday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. A Paulo Orlando RBI triple in the eighth inning proved to be the difference on the night.
The Missions played small ball to scratch out the first run of the game in the third inning. Jacob Nottingham was plunked in the elbow to begin the frame and pitcher Bubba Derby moved him along to second base with a perfectly placed bunt. Two batters later Tyler Saladino ripped a double down the right field line to put the Missions in front.
Derby struck out the first two batters of the fourth inning before back-to-back hits by Ezequiel Carrera and Angelo Mora put the Dodgers on the board. San Antonio recaptured the lead in the fifth with Nottingham being the spark plug once again. The catcher singled to right field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Derby then worked a walk to turn the lineup card over and Corey Ray slipped a single through the right side of the infield to score Nottingham from second base.
The Dodgers handed the Missions their first deficit of the young season in the seventh inning when the birthday boy, Jake Peter crushed a two-run bomb to straight away center field off a rehabbing Jeremy Jeffress.
The lead did not last long as Saladino worked a one-out walk in the top of the eighth and scored the tying run as Tyrone Taylor yanked a double past an outstretched Errol Robinson at third base.
Oklahoma City responded in the home half of the eighth as Carrera reached on a force out and Orlando scorched a triple into the right field corner to bring home the winning run.
