A community that has been through so much in the last year received an unexpected lift from their neighbors on Wednesday, May 23rd. The Spokane Indians and volunteers from Les Schwab spent their day restoring Medical Lake High School's baseball field as part of the team's Community Fields Project presented by Les Schwab Tire Centers.

“Les Schwab is proud to invest time and resources into events and organizations that promote responsibility, hard work and serving the community - values our company believes in,” said Les Schwab Store #411 Manager Chris Zimmerman. “We are happy to have the opportunity to work alongside the Spokane Indians staff to help makeover Holliday Field, the home field for Medical Lake Cardinals High School Baseball.”

Over 30 volunteers from the Spokane Indians Front Office, Les Schwab, and Medical Lake High School worked on several improvements to the field including:

  • Rebuilding the mound
  • Applying one and half pallets of Turface to the infield
  • Sanding and painting bleachers
  • Tying down fencing in both dugouts and bullpens
  • Weeding and cleaning up trash and debris surrounding the field

“The field makeover means a lot to our community. The number of volunteers and labor put in by the Spokane Indians and Les Schwab to make our field a special place is immeasurable,” said Austin Sharp, Medical Lake High School Head Baseball Coach. “The Medical Lake community is extremely grateful for all their efforts.”

2024 year marks the fourth of the team’s Community Fields Project, following previous field restorations at Plante’s Ferry in 2023, Fairchild Air Force Base in 2022, and Wellpinit’s War Veterans Memorial Field in 2021.

"We love having the opportunity to support baseball and softball at a grassroots level in our region," said Otto Klein, Spokane Indians Senior Vice President. "We’re grateful to all of our volunteers for their help with the project and hope that today’s efforts provide some relief to a community that is still recovering from last year’s devastating Gray Fire.”

Special thanks to supporting sponsors A to Z Rentals, AAA, BNSF Railway, BullDog Rooter, Edward Jones, nomnom, Pizza Factory, Spokane Tribe Resort & Casino, The Wake Up Call, and Windermere Spokane.
