The Toledo Mud Hens were shutout by the Syracuse Mets 7-3 in a home loss.

Ashton Goudeau started the game for the Hens on the Mound. He entered today's game with a 1-0 record and a 5.94 ERA.

The Mets wasted no time jumping on the board. After Goudeau retired the first two Met hitters, Mark Vientos and D.J. Stewart hit back-to-back homeruns to give the Mets a 2-0 lead in top of the first.

Pitching for Syracuse was Humberto Mejia, he came into this game with 1-2 record and 5.79 ERA. Mejia worked a one-two-three first inning.

Syracuse jumped on the board again in the top of the second inning. A walk with one out in the inning then a single with two outs from Lorenzo Cadrola put runners on first and second. Danny Mendick drove in two runs with a single to center field and a throwing error allowed the Mets to go up 4-0 after two innings.

The Mud Hens put runners in scoring position in the second and third inning but were unable to score. The Mets held a 4-0 lead after three innings.

After Goudeau pitched a scoreless top of the fourth inning. Mejia was replaced on the mound for Syracuse by Eric Orze. Mejia finished his day pitching three innings, allowing two hits, two walks, five strikeouts and no runs allowed.

Goudeau's day finished after pitching five innings allowing three earned runs and four total runs, allowing five hits, one walk and striking out one batter.

Chavez Fernander replaced Goudeau on the mound in the sixth inning trying to keep the keep the Hens within four runs.

Fernander got into trouble right away in appearance after walking the bases loaded with no outs. Micheal Perez hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score a run. Perez then walked the next batter and that finished his day after recording just one out.

Lanye Henderson entered the game in a bases-loaded one out jam for the Mud Hens in the sixth inning. Henderson recorded the second out of the inning with a shallow pop fly. Danny Mendick was walked by Henderson bringing in another run, after that, Henderson got Ronny Mauricio to ground out to first base to end the inning.

Orze worked a one-two-three sixth inning, keeping the Mud Hens down six runs with just three innings left to go.

Henderson pitched a scoreless seventh inning, then Andrew Knapp got things going for the Hens with a leadoff double. Unfortunately for the Mud Hens, Knapp would be stranded at second base and the Mud Hens were kept off the board.

Brendan White entered the game in the eighth inning for the Mud Hens and got the Hen's right back into the dug out after retiring the side in order.

In the top of the ninth inning Danny Mendick and Ronny Mauricio walked putting runners on first and second. With two outs in the inning. Jaylin Davis hit a two-out RBI single that scored Mendick and extending the lead to 7-0.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Andy Ibanez and Andrew Knapp both singled putting runners on first and second. With one out in the inning Jonathan Davis hit a triple into the right-centerfield gap scoring two runs for the Hens. Jermaine Palacios hit a sacrifice fly that scored Davis, making it a 7-3 Mets lead.

The ninth inning rally would stop their and the Syracuse Mets secured a 7-3 victory at Fifth Third Field.
