Toledo, OH - The Toledo Mud Hounds started the series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and fell 4-3 after a ninth-inning rally from the IronPigs.
Making a rehab start for the Toledo Mud Hens was Alex Faedo. Faedo started the season with the Mud Hens but was later called up by the Detroit Tigers. To open the game, Faedo wasn't greeted nicely as lead-off batter Jake Cave roped a triple to the 406 sign in right-center field to start the game. Former Mud Hen Kody Clemens then singled through the infield to give the IronPigs a 1-0 lead.
The Hounds didn't get their first hit until the bottom of the third inning when Grant Witherspoon smashed a solo home run over the right-center field wall to tie the game up at one.
Blair Calvo replaced Faedo to start the sixth inning with the Mud Hounds. Faedo struck out nine batters in his five innings of work on the Mound for the Hounds. Calvo retired the sixth inning in order, striking out two of the three batters he faced.
Braden Bristo entered the game from the bullpen to start the sixth inning on the mound for the Hounds. Weston Wilson led off the inning with a solo home run to break the 1-1 tie and make a 2-1 IronPigs lead.
Matt Wisler entered the game to pitch the eighth inning for the Mud Hounds. Wisler ended the inning without giving up a run, keeping it a 2-1 ball game.
T.J. Zeuch was the starting pitcher for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Zeuch went seven solid innings and only allowed one run to score via a solo home run. Zeuch was replaced by Jase Vines. Vines allowed a leadoff walk that was followed by a single from Andrew Knapp. During the next at-bat, a wild pitch allowed both the runners to advance to second and third with no outs. With the pressure on, Parker Meadows hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring the runner from third to tie the game at 2-2. Another wild pitch that led to a walk put runners on the corners for the Hounds with one out in the tie-ball game. Colt Keith lined one to right field that was caught but the runner from third was able to score the Mud Hounds grabbed a 3-2 lead to take to the ninth inning. Luis Ortiz entered the game from the bullpen and retired the side, keeping the Houns at a one-run lead.
Wisler continued to pitch into the bottom of the ninth inning for the Mud Hounds. After allowing a leadoff walk, a ground ball allowed the runner to advance to second base with one out. Simon Muzziotti then singled up the middle to score the runner from second to tie the game at three. The IronPigs were able to move the runner over to second after a ground ball, then a throwing error on a pickoff attempt by Wisler allowed Muzziotti to advance to third. With Muzziotti on third, Wisler threw a wild pitch that scored Muzziotti, and the IronPigs claimed a 4-3 lead.
Oritz pitched the bottom of the ninth for the IronPigs and retired the side to secure the 4-3 win over the Mud Hounds.
