Wichita, KS – On August 1, in his final appearance in High A before his promotion to Tulsa, Jackson Ferris threw eight no-hit innings for the Great Lakes Loons. On Thursday night in Wichita, Ferris, who is ranked as the #5 prospect in the Los Angeles Dodgers minor league system, showed a glimpse of that form with the Drillers by tossing five shutout innings while allowing just one hit. The dominant performance led to a win for both Ferris and the Drillers.

Tulsa broke open a one-run game with four runs in the top of the eighth inning and defeated the Wind Surge 5-0 at Riverfront Stadium.

The victory clinched a third straight win in the Coors Light Propeller Series for the Drillers. The Propeller Trophy is awarded to the winner of the season series between Tulsa and Wichita. The two cities are separated by just 129 miles and both have been heavily involved in the air industry for many years, thus the propeller trophy.

BOX SCORE

It was the seventh appearance with the Drillers by Ferris, and he was credited with his first Double-A win. It was his third scoreless outing with Tulsa, but it was his best performance since his promotion on August 2.

The lefthander allowed just two baserunners on the one hit and one walk, and he registered five strikeouts in the five innings, throwing 67 pitches, 41 for strikes. The hit was a groundball single from Tanner Schobel with two outs in the second inning.

Bubba Alleyne was the offensive star of the game, and he was responsible for Ferris getting the win. The game was scoreless through five innings, but that changed when Alleyne led off the top of the sixth with a liner that cleared the right field fence and gave Tulsa a 1-0 lead.

It stayed that way until the Drillers put the game away with a four-run eighth inning. Three straight run-scoring singles by Jose Ramos, Griffin Lockwood-Powell and Noah Miller accounted for the runs.

Ferris was not the only Tulsa pitcher to shine on the mound. Three relievers combined to hold Wichita scoreless with four perfect innings to close out the win. The Wind Surge finished with just the one hit.

Michael Martinez worked a 1-2-3 sixth with two strikeouts in his Double-A debut, and Ronan Kopp struck out three of the four batters he faced. Michael Hobbs got the final five out to close the game.

Alleyne, hitting in the ninth spot of the order, accounted for three of Tulsa’s seven hits.
