(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club is proud to announce that RHP Josh Winckowski has been named the Northwest League Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. Winckowski was also named the League's top arm on July 30th through August 5th.
Winckowski pitched twice this past week guiding the Canadians to a pair of key victories in which Vancouver did not score a single run for him over his 13 1/3 innings of work.
August 13 at Salem-Keizer:
The Canadians sent Winckowski to the mound in hopes of winning their fourth straight over the Volcanoes in a series that saw Salem-Keizer pound out 27 runs on 40 hits heading into the series finale. Winckowski took the ball and went 6 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball scattering five hits while striking out nine as Vancouver took a scoreless game into extras before topping Salem-Keizer 3-1. Winckowski wouldn't get a decision, but saw his ERA drop from 2.96 to 2.60.
August 19 vs. Spokane:
In the rubber match of a three-game series against the Spokane Indians, a team just one game back in the North Division, Winckowski outdueled Indians ace LHP Jake Latz by going seven innings of four hit baseball striking out six before handing the ball off to the stready Canadians bullpen - once again with the game still scoreless. In the 13 1/3 innings that Winckowski pitched for Vancouver over the past week, the Canadians provided him with no run support at all - yet the Canadians would go 2-0 over his pair of starts and now sit two games clear of Spokane in the North Division with 14 second half games remaining.
Weekly Pitching Line: (2G,  2GS,  0-0,  0.00ERA, 13.1IP,  9H,  0R,  0ER,  2BB,  15SO)
Winckowski becomes the first pitcher since RHP Javier Avendano (June 18-24 & August 13-19, 2012) to receive two NWL Pitcher of the Week Awards in the same season.
The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club wishes to congratulate Josh on this wonderful accomplishment and look forward to his next start which is projected to be Saturday, August 25th, 2018 vs. Boise out at historic Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.
