Norwich Wins Suspended Game 9-5 Thursday

BURLINGTON, VT --- The Norwich Sea Unicorns scored three times in both the fourth and eighth innings for a 9-5 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters Thursday night in the completion of a Futures League suspended game from June 30th at historic Centennial Field. The night’s scheduled contest was suspended in the top of the fourth inning with Vermont leading 2-0.

The Lake Monsters had scored the two runs in the bottom of the third inning of the night cap. Jimmy Evans (Tufts) got the rally started with a single in his first Vermont at bat and later scored on a wild pitch. Lake Monsters also scored its second run on another wild pitch in the inning.

After the end of the bottom of the third the game was halted due to rain and suspended. The seven-inning contest will resume at 6:05pm on Friday and followed by another seven-inning game.

The teams started the night with the completion of a June 30th suspened game from June 27th down at Norwich with the Lake led 4-3 in the middle of the fourth, but the Sea Unicorns scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Vermont was able to cut the deficit to 6-5 in the top of the seventh on an Andrew Bergeron (Georgetown) RBI triple, but Norwich added three insurance runs in the eighth. All six Sea Unicorn runs came off Ian Parent (Endicott College), three of the runs earned on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings.

With the loss, Vermont falls to 16-18 overall. The homestand will continue through the weekend with the two games Friday vs. Norwich followed by single games against New Britain Saturday and Sunday.
