The Whitecaps and Corewell Health are teaming up this Mother’s Day to fight breast cancer.

Wear your pinkest outfit to LMCU Ballpark this Mother’s Day, May 12th, as the Whitecaps look to ‘Paint the Park’ pink in honor and celebration of those who have battled breast cancer.

The day will include in-game recognitions, a special game worn player jersey auction, a 50-50 raffle with proceeds benefitting the Betty Ford Breast Care Foundation, and Corewell Health’s Mobile Mammography Unit will be on display with information for interested fans.

“Most people know somebody whose life has been turned upside down by this horrible disease, so the awareness is there. We want to continue to educate people, especially on early detection, and support those who are currently fighting,” said Ben Love, the team’s Promotions and Fan Entertainment Manager. “We want to grow our impact every year.”

Putting money where the team’s mouth is, a portion of ticket sales will be used to help provide breast cancer services for Corewell Health patients in West Michigan.

"Many women underestimate their risk of developing breast cancer, often due to previous normal mammograms or the absence of a family history of breast cancer,” said Jennifer Johnston, MD, Radiologist and Breast Imaging Clinical Advisor at Corewell Health. "However, this should not deter anyone from scheduling their annual mammogram and other crucial health screenings. Fostering an open and honest relationship with your primary care provider, and staying vigilant with screenings like mammograms, is a powerful step towards safeguarding individual health and well-being."

If you don’t have anything pink to wear, or simply want to help support the cause, “Paint the Park Pink 2024” t-shirts are available for advanced purchase and will be handed out before the game.

The Whitecaps host the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Sunday, May 12th with the first pitch scheduled for 2:00pm and gates open at 12:45pm. Being a Corewell Health Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Family Day, the first 1,000 kids ages 12 and under eat free, and there will be a player autograph session with a chance for families to play catch on the outfield grass from 1:15pm – 1:30pm. Kids can run the bases after the game, too.
