Surge keep winning streak alive in series opener

WICHITA, KS - Wind Surge starting pitcher Pierson Ohl continued his recent success on the mound in tonight’s ball game. He only allowed two runs over six innings which paired perfectly with the three home runs hit by Surge batters. The Wind Surge defeated the Cardinals in the series opener

WICHITA, KS - Wind Surge starting pitcher Pierson Ohl continued his recent success on the mound in tonight’s ball game. He only allowed two runs over six innings which paired perfectly with the three home runs hit by Surge batters. The Wind Surge defeated the Cardinals in the series opener 5-2 for their third win in a row and the Surge now lead the series one game to none.

The Wind Surge took an early lead in the bottom of the first off back-to-back home runs. Alex Isola hit a 409-foot solo home run, and then Patrick Winkel hit a 411-foot solo home run over the right center field wall.

Aaron Sabato extended the Surge lead in the bottom of the third. He crushed a ball over the right center field wall for a three-run home run. Wichita now had a five-run lead.

The Cardinals were able to get a couple runs on the board in the top of the sixth. Thomas Saggese slid into third for a two RBI triple on a line drive to center field.

Ohl made his ninth start of the season on the mound for the Wichita Wind Surge. He pitched six solid innings where he gave up only two runs off three hits. He also struck out six batters and walked one more. He earned the win, and his record improves to (5-3).

The starting pitcher for Springfield was Wilfredo Periera. He pitched five innings where he gave up five runs off seven hits. He struck out five batters and walked two more. He was credited with the loss and his record falls to (7-7).

The Wichita Wind Surge improve to (20-20, 48-60) and the Springfield Cardinals fall to (20-20, 54-55). Wichita and Springfield are tied for second place, one half game back of Northwest Arkansas.

NOTES: The Surge have added Carlos Luna from Triple-A St. Paul and activated catcher David Banuelos from the injured list. Patrick Winkel has reached base in 17 straight games.
