WIND SURGE STORYLINES

A TRIUMPHANT WEEK FOR TRAVIS: Coming off his sixth quality start this year, where he totaled a season-high 10 strikeouts, Travis Adams received both Twins Minor League and Texas League Pitcher of the Week honors for his performance. In August, Adams has recorded a sub-1 ERA at 0.87 in 4 appearances (3 starts) to go along with 25 strikeouts in 20.2 innings pitched. He also stands in the Top-10 rankings in the Texas League in five separate categories, placing him among the level’s most consistent arms.

RUCKING UP THE HIT COLUMN: Entering the final three weeks of the regular season, Jake Rucker is tied for the fourth most hits by a Wind Surge player in team history at 114 (Alex Isola, 2023). His next will tie DaShawn Keirsey Jr., the only other Wichita hitter besides Rucker to have multiple 100-hit seasons in Wind Surge colors, for the third spot. Once that next knock follows, the two men that are left for him to chase are Edouard Julien (120, 2022) and Yoyner Fajardo (143) for single-season Wichita hitting supremacy.

THE SECOND PAREDES PARTY: The Wind Surge pitching staff sees a familiar face return to the ranks this week as Mike Paredes got the call-up from High-A Cedar Rapids on Monday. After pitching in eight games at the Double-A ranks between late April and early June, Paredes has gone 2-2 with a 1.89 ERA in 17 games (3 starts) with a pair of saves and an even 45 strikeouts in as many innings pitched since the transfer.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION

LOOKING TO SAVE? CHOOSE SVANSON SACHS!: If there’s one pitcher who’s made a name for himself this season in back-end situations, Matt Svanson is an easy choice that describes that to a tee. Svanson is a perfect 23-for-23 in save opportunities for Springfield in 2024, leading all of Double-A by seven clinches while slotting as the Minor League Baseball runner-up in the category (Wander Suero, 29, Sugar Land Space Cowboys). The righty has shut the door four times this season against Wichita.

SIANI STOPS BY SPRINGFIELD: Earlier today, the St. Louis Cardinals cleared outfielder Michael Siani for a rehab assignment with Springfield this week versus the Wind Surge, with his first game of said assignment set for tonight’s series opener. Siani was placed on the 10-Day Injured List on August 4 with a right oblique strain. His appearance will mark the second straight series where the Cardinals have had a Major League rehabber in the lineup after Tommy Edman drove in four RBIs in four games at Hammons Field the week before the All-Star break.

QUINN’S THREE-PITCH TRICK: Another player who will suit up against the Wind Surge for the first time this season is a 6’5” southpaw starter by the name of Quinn Mathews. A fourth round pick by St. Louis in the 2023 MLB Draft, Mathews has wowed many in his first pro season by leading all Minor League Baseball arms with 180 strikeouts across the Single-A, High-A, and Double-A levels. The Futures Game participant is already up to 40 strikeouts in four starts this month, three of them double-digit K performances, and lines up opposite Marco Raya on Friday for one more August outing.
