The Wilmington Blue Rocks (50-69) stayed hot on Tuesday, August 29, extending their winning streak to five games and taking game one of their six-game series against the Hudson Valley Renegades (66-55) by a final score of 6-3.
The Blue Rocks got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with a Will Frizzell two-RBI double and never looked back. In the bottom of the third, the Rocks tacked on four more runs beginning with a Murphy Stehly RBI single to make it 3-0. Then, Daylen Lile ripped his second triple of the season to score Stehly and Yohandy Morales to extend their lead to 5-0. To wrap up the inning, Matt Suggs recorded a sacrifice fly to score Lile and make it a 6-0 ballgame.
The Renegades were able to score two runs in the top of the fourth, and one more in the top of the fifth thanks to Rafael Flores’ seventh home run of the year, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Wilmington from taking game one of their final home series of 2023.
Rocks’ starter Thaddeus Ward was solid on the mound, tossing four innings of three-run ball, allowing four hits and striking out five. Lile led the Rocks’ lineup with a 2-3 day at the plate that included a walk and two RBI.
Wilmington will look to make it six straight wins in game two of this six-game series on Wednesday, August 30 at 6:35 p.m. EST.
