The Wilmington Blue Rocks defeated the Hudson Valley Renegades 5-3 with a bounce back win on Sunday night.
An abysmal defensive performance last night cost the Rocks a win, in tonight’s game they were sharp.
Kyle Lukcham got the start in the Rocks’ final home game and would gain some early run support in this one.
After a quick and quiet first three innings, the Rocks would come alive in the fourth. A one-out single by Andrew Pinckney would get things started. After YoYo Morales was hit by a pitch, Matt Suggs would blast a two-out, three-run home run to straight away center field to make it a 3-0 game.
In the fifth, the Rocks would show their power again with a solo home run by Jared McKenize to make it 4-0.
In the top half of the sixth, the Renegades would strike back. Luckham would surrender back to back singles to Kyle Battle and Jared Serna and they would be followed up with a two-run triple by Ben Cowles to make it 4-2.
Cowles would later come in to score on an RBI sacrifice fly by TJ Rumfield to make it a one-run game.
That would be it for Luckham, who would go 6.0 innings allowing three runs on four hits while striking out one and walking one.
In the seventh, the Rocks would add on some insurance, attacking the Renegades’ bullpen. A one-out ground-rule double by McKenzie was followed with another ground-rule double by Cortland Lawson to make it a 5-3 game.
The Rocks bullpen would shut the Renegades down and the Rocks would close out their final game of the season at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium with a win.
The Rocks will now hit the road and head to Brooklyn for a six game series with the Cyclones to end their season.
