SWB pitches back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 2019

Jacksonville, FL (May 2, 2024) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders shutout the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp for the second straight game, winning 2-0 Thursday night at 121 Financial Ballpark. Tanner Tully, Alex Mauricio and Oddainier Mosqueda combined for the shutout effort, blanking the Jumbo Shrimp on just three hits and two walks

Jacksonville, FL (May 2, 2024) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders shutout the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp for the second straight game, winning 2-0 Thursday night at 121 Financial Ballpark. Tanner Tully, Alex Mauricio and Oddainier Mosqueda combined for the shutout effort, blanking the Jumbo Shrimp on just three hits and two walks as the RailRiders became the first team in Minor League Baseball to reach 20 wins this season.

Tully pitched four shutout innings at the outset. After facing five batters in the first, including an 11-pitch battle with Jhonny Pereda that ended in a strikeout, Tully faced four batters in the second and the minimum in the third and fourth. The lefty struck out two and walked one, allowing just a pair of hits in four frames. Jumbo Shrimp spot starter Kyle Tyler also worked four scoreless, striking out four and walking two.

In the bottom of the sixth, the RailRiders connected on five straight singles off reliever Kent Emanuel. With runners on the corners and one out, Luis Torrens singled in T.J. Rumfield to break up the dueling shutouts. Josh VanMeter added an RBI single, plating Jose Rojas for a 2-0 SWB lead.

Mauricio (W, 1-0) relieved Tully in the fifth inning, facing the minimum over three shutout innings of his own. Mosqueda completed the shutout with a pair of scoreless innings to earn his second save of the season.

Emanuel (L, 0-1) took the loss for Jacksonville, allowing the two RailRiders runs on six hits over 3.2 innings.

Eight of nine batters reached on a base hit for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and all nine in the order reached at least once.

The RailRiders had not pitched back-to-back shutouts since a doubleheader sweep at Buffalo on June 5, 2019. The club had not recorded consecutive shutouts in nine-inning games since June 17 and 18, 2017, also at Buffalo.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Jacksonville meet again Friday afternoon in game four of this six-game set. Edgar Barclay starts for the RailRiders against the Jumbo Shrimp and Max Meyer. First pitch is set for 1:05 P.M.
