Sod Dogs' Byrne, Porchas Named TCL North Players of the Week

Bryan/College Station, TX - The Texas Collegiate League has announced Kurtis Byrne and Enrique Porchas of the Amarillo Sod Dogs and Hunter Barco of the Tulsa Drillers as TCL North Division players of the week for July 6th-13th.
Porchas (Bethune Cookman University) and Byrne (TCU) combined for five home runs and 20 RBI’s for the Sod Dogs last week. Bryne, the designated hitter/catcher for Amarillo, finished the week hitting .524 and walked four times, while the third baseman went .455 and earned six free passes. Both players had huge games in the 21-3 win against the Texarkana Twins on Tuesday. Bryne went 2-2 with two walks, three RBI’s and crossed the plate four times. Porchas went 5-3 with two home runs and six RBI’s.

Barco, a freshman Florida Gator, earned player of the week honors on the mound after pitching five no-hit innings against the Sod Squad on Tuesday. He stuck out eight of the 19 batters he faced and walked just one. In his first inning of work, he struck out the side. His ERA on the season is now 1.12 with 16 strikeouts.
