Jackson, Cox power Tourists
Anthony Jackson and Jay Cox combined for seven RBIs to lead Asheville's 15-3 rout of Hickory on Monday at L.P. Frans Stadium.
Every regular managed at least one hit as the Tourists (33-17) collected a season-high 19. Jackson had four RBIs, including a run-scoring triple in the fourth. Jay Cox crushed a two-run homer, belted an RBI triple and scored three times.
Geoff Strickland and Hector Gomez crushed back-to-back shots in the fourth, while Daniel Mayora was 4-for-5 with an RBI. Michael McKenry and Spence Nagy each collected three hits and scored twice.
Asheville reliever Zachary Simons (4-1) allowed one hit and two walks with four strikeouts in 3 1/3 scoreless frames. Starter Joshua Sullivan gave up three runs -- two earned -- on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.
Crawdads starter Jeffrey Sues (0-1) surrendered nine runs on 10 hits and a walk in 3 1/3 innings. He struck out four and served up three homers.
Bobby Kingsbury drove in two runs for Hickory (20-28).
