GreenJackets Beat RiverDogs 5-1

Augusta Wins First Game of the Series Against Charleston
April 10, 2014

Augusta, GA--The Augusta GreenJackets (4-4) won the first game of the series against the Charleston RiverDogs (3-4) on Thursday at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Ballpark. The final score was 5 to 1.

The RiverDogs were first to score. Michael O'Neill scored the lone run in the bottom of the second. After being walked, O'Neill advanced to second base on a balk, stole third base and scored off of a throwing error by Leonardo Rojas. 

It wasn't until the top of the sixth inning when the GreenJackets began their rally. A pair of doubles by Brandon Bednar and Matthew Chavez allowed the GreenJackets to score the team's first run of the night. With Chavez on third, Ryan Tuntland singled up the middle bringing Chavez home, making the score 2-1.

The seventh inning brought three more runs for the GreenJackets. With Cristian Paulino on third, Brandon Bednar singled to right field allowing Paulino to score. Matthew Chavez doubled to left center field and two more runs were scored. 

Right handed pitcher, Carlos Alvarado, received his first win of the season. Alvarado pitched 2.2 innings allowed 1 hit and threw four strikeouts. 

Daniel Slania finished the game strong for the GreenJackets and earned his first save of the season. In three innings he walked two players and struck out three. 

The GreenJackets play the second game of the series Friday, April 11, at 7:00 PM. The team will be back at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Monday, April 14, at 7:00 PM against the Savannah Sand Gnats. It will be the first "Feed Your Face" Monday of the season!
