PEARL, MS - For a second time in three days, the Mississippi Braves (63-67, 34-26) shut out the Biloxi Shuckers (76-57, 35-28) in a 2-0 defeat on Sunday afternoon at Trustmark Park. The Shuckers are now 0.5 game back in the second half South Division standings.
Biloxi's best chance to score against RHP Ian Anderson (W, 1-1) came in the top of the second. Trent Grisham dropped down a one-out bunt single and stole second to put himself in scoring position. During the ensuing at bat, Weston Wilson struck out but advanced to first on a wild pitch that also allowed Grisham to motor to third. Luis Aviles Jr. struck out on a high fastball for the second out, and Wilson was called out on batters interference by Aviles, ending the Shuckers rally.
For a second straight night, the M-Braves did their damage in one inning. Tyler Neslony led off the fourth with a double and was followed by four consecutive singles that plated two runs. It was the lone blemish for RHP Marcos Diplan (L, 2-5), who turned in six innings of work and allowed just those two runs on six hits while walking two and striking out six.
After Anderson sat down 14 in a row, the Shuckers had one final opportunity to plate their first run of the game in the seventh. Tyler Heineman reached on a single with one out and moved to second on a groundout from Blake Allemand. Anderson walked Grisham to bring the go-ahead run to the plate, but LHP Thomas Burrows (H, 1) put out the fire, inducing a pop out to second from Wilson. RHP Jason Hursh (S, 7) picked up his second save in as many nights by tossing a 1-2-3 top of the ninth.
The Shuckers continue their series against Mississippi on Monday night at 7:00 PM CT. Biloxi is scheduled to send RHP Trey Supak (4-6, 3.38) to the mound opposite M-Braves LHP Ricardo Sánchez (2-4, 4.44). The game can be heard locally on Cruisin' WGCM AM 1240/100.9 FM, TuneIn Radio or the MiLB First Pitch App.
