Barons Get the Walk-off Win in the 10th

Terrell Tatum hit an RBI single to center field to give the Barons a walk-off 9-8 win over Rocket City before 4,596 at Regions Field on Thursday night. Most of the season, Barons pitching has carried the Barons to wins, but tonight, the Barons pounded out 12 hits and trailed for much of the game.

Tatum walked three times in the game and got the big hit when the Barons needed it. Tatum has the most walks in the Southern League. Also, he scored two big runs as the leadoff batter. With the win, the Barons improve to 32-16 and first place in the Northern Division of the Southern League.

Rocket City (24-24) scored in the top of the first inning. A Sam Brown RBI double, a Tucker Flint ground-out RBI, and a Denzer Guzman RBI single gave the Trash Pandas a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the first inning, Terrell Tatum walked, Duke Ellis an infield single, and a Jacob Gonzalez hit by pitch loaded the Barons bases. Tim Elko singled to right field, scoring Tatum and Ellis. Tyler Neslony, single to left field, scored Elko, and the game was tied at 3-3.

In the top of the third inning, Sam Brown's sacrifice fly gave the Trash Pandas a 4-3 lead. In the top of the third inning, An Arol Vera RBI single scored Guzman, and the Trash Pandas led 5-3. In the bottom of the fourth, Ellis's sacrifice fly scored Alsander Womack, and the Barons trimmed the lead to 5-4. Sam Brown singled on a line drive to center field, Orlando Martinez scored, and the Trash Pandas led 6-4.

A Tim Elko RBI single scored Duke Ellis in the bottom of the seventh inning. Ellis stole two bases and was at third base when he scored. A wild pitch by pitcher Nick Jones scored Elko from third base. With two runs, the Barons tied the game at 6-6. In the top of the eighth inning, the Trash Pandas had bases loaded and no outs while hitting into a double play but scoring on the play. With the run, the Trash Pandas take a 7-6 lead. With a runner on third base, a wild pitch scored another Rocket City run, and the Trash Pandas led 8-6.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Terrell Tatum walked, stole second, and scored on a Jacob Gonzalez RBI single to left field scoring Tatum. With the run, the Trash Pandas led 8-7. In the bottom of the ninth, Wilfred Veras hit a sacrifice fly to score pinch runner Jacob Burke, who came in after an Edgar Quero single. With the run, the Barons tied the game at 8-8.

In the bottom of the 10th inning, Womack was the ghost runner. He stole third base with no outs. Jason Matthews walked, and Tatum singled to center field to score Womack for the Baron's 9-8 win.

Ellis was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, Elko was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, Quero had two hits, and Neslony had two hits and an RBI in the win. Next, the Barons will play game five of the seven-game series against the Trash Pandas on Friday. LHP Jake Eder (1-1, 4.57) will take the mound for the Barons on Defender of the Diamond Night, Faith and Family Night, and Girl Scout Night.
