Game 89: Boise can't hold back Grand Junction

Boise, ID - Thirteen unanswered runs would sink the Boise Hawks (24-17) in a 16-4 loss to the Grand Junction Rockies (23-18) on Thursday night at Memorial Stadium.

It took until the third inning for either side to score, with the Rockies firing the opening salvo and plating three in the top half of the inning.

Boise would be able to answer with one run in the bottom half, thanks to Tyler Jorgensen doubling with one out, and Myles Miller hitting a two out double to bring him home and cut the lead to 3-1 for Grand Junction.

One inning later the lead would shrink again thanks to an Hidekel Gonzalez RBI double that scored Roby Enriquez, putting Boise down 3-2.

Grand Junction would then blow open the ball game, scoring three times in the fifth, twice in the sixth, and sending four men home in both the seventh and eighth to take a 16-2 lead.

The Hawks would get one run in the eighth on an error by the Rockies third baseman, Tyler Sandoval, and then another in the ninth because of Roby Enriquez’s RBI groundout, but it wasn’t close to matching the Rockies offense output.

On the night Boise found themselves outhit 21-9 as the Rockies evened up the series at one game a side.

With the loss the Hawks magic number remains at six, with three more victories out of the final four games of the series enough to clinch a playoff berth for a right to play Ogden on September 11th.

Matt Dallas will take the ball tomorrow night to push Boise back in the right direction, with a Friday night first pitch scheduled for 7:15.
