Bowie, M.D. (June 4, 2024) - The Baltimore Orioles announced Tuesday afternoon that right-handed pitcher Carlos Tavera has been promoted from the Double-A Bowie Baysox to the Triple-A Norfolk Tides.
In nine appearances this year, Tavera recorded a 3.30 ERA over 30 innings pitched with 36 strikeouts and a 1.07 WHIP. Opposing hitters batted just .155 against him.
Tavera threw 9.1 consecutive scoreless innings to end the month of May over his final three outings. The right-hander also pitched 16.2 consecutive scoreless innings of relief on the road beginning on April 23 at Richmond.
The 25-year-old pitched at least four scoreless innings of relief in four of his nine outings this season.
Arguably Tavera’s best outing of the season was when he pitched four perfect innings out of the bullpen and struck out a season-high seven batters to collect his first win of the year against Altoona on April 17.
The Fort Worth, Tx. native debuted in the Orioles system in 2021 after being drafted by the Orioles in the 5th round of the 2021 Draft out of Texas-Arlington. Tavera debuted in Bowie in 2023 and spent the entire season with the Baysox where he pitched the third-most innings (79.2) and struck out the third-most hitters (89) on the team.
Tavera concludes his two seasons with the Baysox with a 4.43 ERA over 109.2 innings with 125 strikeouts across 32 appearances (17 starts).
This is Tavera’s first promotion to Triple-A Norfolk. He is the fourth Baysox arm this season to be promoted along with RHP Kade Strowd, LHP Trey McGough, and RHP Brandon Young.
The Baysox begin a six-game homestand against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies tonight at 6:35 pm from Prince George’s Stadium.
