CORPUS CHRISTI - The Springfield Cardinals secured the Texas League North first-half title by knocking off the Hooks, 9-2, Sunday afternoon before 3,362 fans at Whataburger Field.

In the first-half finale, the Cardinals employed 10 hits, six walks, and four steals to post a 4-2 record on the week.

The production included three home runs, with Mike Antico and Matt Lloyd teaming for back-to-back circuit clouts in the third.

Corpus Christi managed to tie the game at 1 in the first as Jeremy Arocho, Brice Matthews, and Zach Dezenzo all reached base to begin the frame. Arocho, aboard via a free pass, scored from third on an RBI single by Dezenzo.

Matthews, 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base on Sunday, has hit safely in four of his first five Double-A games.

Jacob Melton doubled to begin a two-out rally in the third. Following a walk to Tommy Sacco Jr., Collin Price punched a base hit up the middle to cut the Cards lead to 3-2.

Springfield hurlers recorded 19 consecutive outs to finish the game as the Cards scored six unanswered runs.

Arocho gave the home crowd a reason to cheer in the fifth as he made a leading catch while slamming into the left field wall to take extra bases away from Lloyd.
