Lansing, Mich.—Lansing’s Jonny Butler hit a game-winning two-run home run with no outs in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Lugnuts overcame a big Dayton comeback and defeated the Dragons 10-9. The two clubs split the six-game series.

Dayton’s Jay Allen II tied a club record with five hits and Cam Collier hit his seventh home run of the season as the Dragons collected 15 hits and battled back from a 6-1 deficit. The Dragons trailed 8-5 going to the ninth inning but rallied for three runs to get the game into extra innings. They took their first lead of the day with one run in the top of the 10th before Butler won it for Lansing in the bottom of the same inning.

The Dragons trailed 6-3 when Collier blasted a two-run home run in the top of the seventh to make it 6-5. But Lansing scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to again lead by three runs at 8-5.

In the ninth, Allen led off with a single and Hector Rodriguez walked with one out. Collier then doubled off the center field fence to drive in Allen and move Rodriguez to third. Cade Hunter’s infield ground out brought in Rodriguez to make it 8-7, and with two outs, Collier scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.

In the top of the 10th, Dayton’s Leo Balcazar lined a single to center to drive in pinch runner Ethan O’Donnell and give the Dragons a 9-8 lead. But in the bottom of the 10th, Butler launched a two-run home run to right field to give Lansing a walk-off win.

Allen became the 10th player in Dragons history and the first Dayton player since 2018 to collect five hits in a game. Rodriguez and Balcazar each had three hits. Collier, who entered the day as the Midwest League leader in home runs and RBI, had a homer and three runs batted in.
