Dayton, Ohio-Dayton starting pitcher Austin Orewiler and two relievers combined to allow only two hits and Andy Sugilio hit a two-run home run in the first inning as the Dragons defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods 3-1 on Saturday night. The largest crowd of the season, 9,173, was in attendance on Hometown Heroes American Celebration night at Fifth Third Field.
Orewiler (5-4) worked the first seven innings, allowing only three base runners. He surrendered one run on two hits and one walk while striking out one.
The Dragons scored all three of their runs in the first inning.
The only Bowling Green run came on a seventh inning solo home run by Moises Gomez. The Hot Rods did not have an at-bat in the game with a runner in scoring position.
The Dragons finished with five hits.
The Dragons have won three of four games so far on their six-game home stand.
In the Standings: The Dragons improved to 23-32 in the second half with the win. They are four games behind Great Lakes in the Midwest League's East Division Second Half wildcard race. There are 15 games to play including nine home games for the Dragons.
