Lake County to Host Lansing for Six Games at Classic Auto Group Park

The Captains and Lugnuts are scheduled to play the final six games of their 18-game regular-season series this week.

LAST TIMES OUT

  • Last week against Dayton (High-A, Cincinnati), Lake County lost two of three games Monday through Wednesday in Dayton, but won two of three from Thursday through Saturday in Eastlake. The Captains averaged six runs per game and posted a Midwest League-best 1.96 ERA in that span.
  • In six games against Fort Wayne (High-A, San Diego), Lansing won two of three games in Lansing on Monday through Wednesday, and took two of three at Fort Wayne from Thursday through Saturday.

A LOOK AT THE STANDINGS

  • The Captains are second in the Midwest League East Second Half standings at 8-6, trailing West Michigan (High-A, Detroit) by 1.5 games. Lake County won the MWL East First Half title, already clinching a playoff spot.
  • The Lugnuts are 6-9 in the second half, sitting four games out of first place in the MWL East and a half game back from Great Lakes (High-A, Los Angeles NL) in third.

  • On Friday night against Dayton, the Captains scored a franchise-record 20 runs in a 20-1 victory.
  • Lake County also broke franchise records for largest margin of victory (19 runs), plate appearances in an inning (18), walks in an inning (nine), and tied the record for most runs in an inning (12).

5 PLAYERS TO KNOW – LAKE COUNTY

  • INF Alex Mooney, MLB Pipeline’s No. 20 Cleveland prospect, is the only player in Minor League Baseball with 10-plus homers, 25-plus extra base hits, and 30-plus stolen bases. In Friday’s 20-1 win over Dayton, he scored a franchise record six runs and went 4-for-4, finishing a triple shy of the cycle.
  • C Cooper Ingle, MLB Pipeline’s No. 30 Cleveland prospect, leads the Midwest League with a .339 batting average and a .432 on-base percentage. Ingle’s average and OBP are the highest clips by a Midwest League catcher (min. 200 PA) through the first 80 team games of a season since 2005.
  • LHP Matt Wilkinson, Baseball America’s No. 30 Cleveland prospect, pitched five shutout innings in Saturday’s 3-0 win versus Dayton, allowing one hit and striking out eight. Wilkinson leads full-season Minor League Baseball with 14.57 strikeouts per nine innings and a 41.7% strikeout rate.
  • INF Angel Genao, Baseball America’s No. 62 MLB prospect, has hit safely in 16 of his last 18 games. His 24 doubles between Single-A Lynchburg and Lake County are tied for fourth in Minor League Baseball.
  • RHP Carter Spivey pitched a Minor League-best eight shutout innings with seven strikeouts in Thursday’s 6-5 loss to Dayton in 10 innings. Spivey is the 13th MiLB pitcher this season to pitch eight scoreless innings in a start.

5 PLAYERS TO KNOW – LANSING

  • RHP Luis Morales, MLB Pipeline’s No. 2 Oakland prospect, has made a team-high 12 starts, going 1-1 with a 4.32 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 41.2 innings. Oakland’s top pitching prospect has been selected to play in the MLB All-Star Futures Game on July 13 in Arlington, Texas.
  • INF Will Simpson, MLB Pipeline’s No. 24 Oakland prospect, ranks fourth in the Midwest League with 49 walks and 11th with a .389 on-base percentage. Simpson is riding an 11-game on-base streak, his best streak since reaching base in 17 straight games from April 5 to April 26.
  • INF Euribiel Ángeles is batting a team-best .306 (34-for-111) since June 1, seventh-best in the Midwest League. Angeles is second in the MWL with 53 RBI and third with 85 hits.
  • LHP Colton Johnson is a perfect 8-for-8 in saves, the most in the Midwest League without a blown save. Johnson finished Lansing’s fourth no-hitter in franchise history on June 17 versus Cedar Rapids (High-A, Minnesota).
  • INF Casey Yamauchi has reached base in 15 of 18 games with Lansing after being assigned from Single-A Stockton on May 29. Yamauchi’s .314 average between Single-A Stockton and Lansing is the third-highest among Oakland minor leaguers with 170-plus plate appearances.
