June 16, 2024 - EUGENE, OR: The AquaSox bats found a power surge, homering four times as Everett won their fifth game of the six-game series by defeating Eugene 8-5 at PK Park.

AquaSox bats found their stride immediately, bringing home three runs in the top of the first inning. Victor Labrada, the game’s second batter, smashed his third home run to right center field, scoring Everett’s first run. RJ Schreck also crushed a solo home run to center field for his ninth long ball of the season. Schreck’s homer was his second in as many games.

Caleb Cali and Freuddy Batista would combine to extend Everett’s early scoring attack. After Cali drew a walk, Batista hit his sixth double to left field. Batista’s double allowed Cali to score from first base for the Frogs’ final run of the inning.

Eugene responded in the bottom of the first inning. Rodolfo Nolasco hit a three-run home run to left center field off of right-hander Ryan Hawks, tying the game. Hawks would settle down after Nolasco’s homer, pitching a scoreless second and third inning as the game remained knotted 3-3.

The AquaSox broke the tie in the top of the fourth inning. Hunter Fitz-Gerald hit his second home run to center field for the Frogs’ third long ball of the evening, providing Everett a 4-3 advantage. Everett never gave up the lead again after Fitz-Gerald’s blast.

Two more AquaSox baserunners dashed home in the top of the fifth inning. Josh Hood scored as Fitz-Gerald reached base on a fielding error, and Batista scored as Axel Sanchez reached base on a fielding error, extending the Frogs’ lead 6-3.

Hawks gave up his fourth and final run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Quinn McDaniel hit a solo home run. His night from the mound concluded after five innings of four-run baseball. Hawks struck out six Emeralds and walked only one batter while earning his fourth pitching win.

Relieving Hawks were Anthony Tomczak and Jimmy Kingsbury. Tomczak threw a scoreless inning and struck out one batter.

Everett added more insurance runs in the seventh and eighth. In the top of the seventh, Fitz-Gerald collected his second RBI, knocking an RBI single to score Hood and lengthen the Frogs’ advantage 7-4. Eugene nullified that run’s impact, scoring one run in the bottom of the seventh, but the AquaSox would gain their insurance run right back. Colin Davis blasted his first home run to left center field in the top of the eighth inning, providing Everett their eighth and final run of the evening.
The duo of right-handers Juan Burgos and Stefan Raeth combined to pitch a scoreless eighth and ninth inning to secure the Frogs’ 8-5 victory. Burgos struck out one batter, and Raeth struck out a pair of batters to earn his fifth save. AquaSox pitchers combined to strike out 10 Emeralds and allowed only six hits.

From the batter’s box, the AquaSox knocked eight hits. Fitz-Gerald led the team by tallying a pair of base hits, and Davis, Batista, Hood, Schreck, Labrada, and Jared Sunstrom all hit safely once. Four AquaSox batters hit home runs and five hitters collected RBIs. Hood and Sundstrom each stole one base each.

Everett concluded the series on a five-game win streak, winning five of six games against Eugene at PK Park. They currently hold a 9-9 record this season against the Emeralds, and they sit at an even 31-31 record overall.
