August 22, 2024 - Seattle, WA: Dan Wilson, the former catcher and member of the Mariners Hall of Fame, who is currently a special assignment coordinator on the Minor League side, will take over as the 21st manager in team history when they take on the San Francisco Giants on Friday.

This will be Wilson’s first stint on a Major League coaching staff but is in his 11th season in the organization on the front office and coaching side. His roving role has mostly been on the Minors side, where he visits each affiliate throughout the year.

“Dan is about as clear and easy of a conversation as you’re gonna have,”Jerry Dipoto said. “Especially over the last few days, but over the last nine years, I’ve learned he’s an incredibly patient person, kindhearted. As soon as he walks into a room, you know he’s there to help you. That is inviting to any player, whether it’s the guy who pitches the eighth inning or the guy who hits cleanup.“

As a player, Wilson spent 12 of his 14 year Major League career with the Mariners (1994-2005) and played in 1,281 games. Through his career he held a .262 batting average and collected 519 RBIs. Wilson was also an all-star selection in 1996. All but one of his games as a Mariner were spent behind the plate where he posted 8,112 putouts, 467 assists, and threw out 117 runners on the base paths.

During the 2000 season, Wilson played for Everett on a rehab assignment.
