Frogs’ Bats Light Up, 12-1

EVERETT, Wash. – The AquaSox blew the Hops’ 1-0 lead in the sixth inning, scoring eight of their 12 total runs. Unable to score, Hillsboro fell 12-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After three scoreless innings, Hillsboro took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Blaze Alexander hit an RBI double, scoring Corbin Carroll.

In the sixth inning, the Frogs took the lead and then some. Joseph Rosa started the rally with a ground-rule double, driving in Kaden Polcovich and putting Carter Bins in scoring position. Patrick Frick followed with a line-drive single, scoring both Bins and Rosa to give the AquaSox a 3-1 lead. Julio Rodriguez knocked in another two runs with a line drive to left field, followed by Austin Shenton driving in the Frogs’ sixth run with a ground-rule double. Polcovich singled, driving in the seventh run and a throwing error extended the AquaSox lead to 8-1.

With a healthy lead for the rest of the game, the AquaSox tacked on a few more security runs. Rosa scored again in the seventh off a soft ground-out from Zach DeLoach and before the end of the inning, Shenton drove in two more runs with an RBI double, bringing the score to 11-1. DeLoach drove in the final run of the game in the top of the ninth with a line-drive single, securing the AquaSox 12-1 victory.

WRAPPING IT UP

At the plate, Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with two walks, two RBI and scored twice. Rosa finished his first AquaSox start with three hits, including a double from each side of the plate, and Polcovich went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

On the mound, RHP Emerson Hancock made his debut, pitching two scoreless innings with one walk and three strikeouts. RHP Bernie Martinez was on the mound for 3.1 innings, allowing one earned while striking out three and RHP Evan Johnson struck out six in his 2.2 innings pitched. RHP Kyle Hill closed the game, drawing two flyouts and striking out the final batter of the game.
