Wrenn to be inducted into Scouts Hall of Fame

FORT MYERS, Fla. (August 11, 2015) - On Friday, August 14, the Fort Myers Miracle will induct Luke Wrenn into the Killebrew Root Beer Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers. Wrenn is the 11th inductee in the eighth year of the Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame.

Prior to a 7:05 p.m. match-up with the Palm Beach Cardinals, Wrenn will be honored in a pregame ceremony at the scouts wall at the Gate 2 entrance to the stadium. This unique honor is given to those who exist at the very foundation of player development for the Major Leagues. Wrenn will be commemorated with a bronze plaque, designed by the acclaimed US Bronze, and placed on display at Hammond Stadium at the CenturyLink Sports Complex.

"We are honored to induct Mr. Wrenn into the Scouts Hall of Fame here at Hammond Stadium," said Miracle Chief Operating Officer Steve Gliner. "Being able to celebrate scouts that have dedicated their lives to this profession and the game of baseball is tremendous privilege."

In the last eight years, the Miracle have honored Terry Ryan (Minnesota Twins), Dave Yoakum (Chicago White Sox), Al Goldis (long time scout), John Barr (San Francisco Giants), Tom Kotchman (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim), Rudy Santin (San Francisco Giants), Jack Gillis (Colorado Rockies), Dan Jennings (Miami Marlins), Mike Russell (Detroit Tigers) and Jorge Posada, Sr. (New York Yankees).

Wrenn has been with the Arizona Diamondbacks since 2001 and is the Diamondbacks Amateur Area Scout for Central and Northern Florida. Wrenn began his scouting career with the Seattle Mariners in 1984 and spent six years in the Seattle organization. In 1990, Wrenn became an Area Scout for the Boston Red Sox for 10 years until 1999.

In his career, Wrenn signed three first round picks: Tino Martinez, Nomar Garciaparra and Stephen Drew. Wrenn also signed Major Leaguers Mike Hampton, David Eckstein and Mike Maroth.

Prior to moving into scouting, Wrenn was a 37th round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1972 MLB Draft and played five years with the Pirates and San Diego Padres organizations.

After his playing career ended, Wrenn gradated from the University of Florida in 1978 with a Bachelor's degree in Education. Wrenn then went to Delta State University in Mississippi in 1979 to obtain his Master's degree. In 1981, Wrenn graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with his Education Specialist degree.

Married to his wife, Angela, Wrenn resides in Lakeland and have three children: Matthew, Taylor and Caity.
