Brayan Romero guided the Nats through three scoreless frames to begin the night, before the bats woke up in the top of the fourth inning. Seaver King singled to open the frame, then Caleb Lomavita got hit by a pitch to put two men on. After a flyout, Brandon Pimentel came through with a two-run double to draw first blood.
Romero finished his evening with five dominant innings, allowing just one hit and one walk.
Fredericksburg extended their lead in the top of the sixth, thanks to some daring base-running. Cristhian Vaquero was on second base after he and Jorgelys Mota singled, when Kelvin Diaz lifted a fly ball to right field. George Wolkow made an awkward catch for the out, as Cristhian Vaquero tagged from second base and scored to make it 3-0 Nats after six.
But in the bottom of the seventh, Kannapolis hit back. After a walk and a single, Jackson Appel clubbed his first pro home run, a three run shot to tie the game. Arxy Hernandez then put the Ballers up in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single, as Kannapolis went on to win by a run, 4-3. Aaron Combs (1-0) notched his first pro win, and Bryan Sanchez (1-6) took the loss.
In game five, Travis Sykora (4-3, 2.31) goes up against Ricardo Brizuela (3-0, 3.18) in a 7:00 p.m. start.
