The Frisco RoughRiders are the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. Founded in 2003, the club competes in the eight-team Texas League and won the circuit's championship in 2004.
Through the franchise's first 17 years, over 170 former Riders players have gone on to reach the Major Leagues, including all-stars Chris Davis, Adrian Gonzalez and Ian Kinsler, along with current Rangers Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Jose Trevino and Leody Taveras.
The RoughRiders call beautiful Riders Field home, where they led all of Double-A in attendance for 15 years-straight seasons through 2019. In addition to hosting 60-70 Riders games every season, the venue also plays host to numerous other events throughout the year, including the Frisco College Baseball Classic and Dirk Nowitzki's annual Heroes Foundation Celebrity Baseball Game, and numerous corporate meetings and events.
In August 2014, a group led by Chuck Greenberg purchased the RoughRiders and helped further elevate the franchise as one of the best in Minor League Baseball. The new ownership introduced a new brand identity for the franchise prior to the 2015, featuring new team colors, logos and uniforms inspired by Teddy Roosevelt, the original RoughRider.
Greenberg's group, in conjunction with the City of Frisco, has also invested more than $8 million in improvements to Riders Field, highlighted by the addition of the nationally renowned Lazy River, a new HD video board, and the creation of the Bull Moose Saloon, among other renovations. Ballpark Digest recognized the franchise in its "best ballpark improvements" awards after the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
The franchise has also been awarded with a plethora of other honors in its first 16 years, including Texas League Organization of the Year in 2005 and 2009and Baseball America's Bob Freitas Award in 2007 as the best operation among all 30 Double-A teams
