MIDLAND, Mich. -- There was a celebratory feel in the air at Dow Diamond on Saturday night even before the game started. As more than 3,500 fans poured through the gates on Memorial Day Weekend in anticipation of being selected as the three millionth fan in franchise history, a heck of a game unfolded over the next three hours.
Midland native Eric Miller walked away the grand prize winner and will hold a spot in the record books forever, and the Great Lakes Loons held up their end of the bargain with a 7-6 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps to send everyone home feeling like winners.
Despite the tight score line, the Loons (30-16) never trailed in the game. And with winds at first pitch reaching close to 15-20 miles per hour, it made for some interesting pop flies which the Loons would benefit from.
After jumping out to a 4-0 lead, Great Lakes saw the TinCaps pull within a run 5-4 heading to the bottom of the 5th inning.
