Midland, Mich.– The Great Lakes Loons (47-22) utilized six pitchers who struck out 14 Lansing Lugnuts (32-37) in a 4-0 shutout victory on a 79-degree Wednesday night at Dow Diamond.
Lansing loaded the bases with two walks and a two-out single in the ninth inning that bounced Juan Morillo from the game. Clark Elliot was the potential tying run but was sent down on four pitches by Benony Robles to end the game.
Ronan Kopp, the Loons starter, posted a season-high seven strikeouts. The left-hander went 3.2 innings, striking out the side in the top of the first.
Great Lakes reached just one baserunner through the first three innings. In the fourth inning, Dalton Rushing roped a 1-0 pitch over the right-field fence, the lone run off Brady Basso. The Dodgers No. 4 prospect has eight home runs in 49 games played.
Jerming Rosario rolled through 2.1 innings. The right-hander struck out three batters, including a three-pitch punchout to close the fourth that stranded a Lugnut at second base.
The Loons tallied three runs in the sixth to make it 4-0. Damon Keith doubled to begin the inning. Dalton Rushing lined a ball to centerfield that was misplayed and allowed Keith to come across home. Luis Diaz followed with a 109 miles per hour base knock. With two outs, Taylor Young stepped up and sliced the first pitch he saw down the left field line to plate Rushing and Diaz.
Taylor Young and Ismael Alcantara were left on base to end both the fifth and sixth inning. Young stole three bases in the contest, Alcantara two.
The final three innings saw four different Great Lakes pitchers. Mitchell Tyranski tossed a scoreless seventh, that finished with a punchout. Franklin De La Paz delivered a clean nine-pitch eighth. Juan Morillo and Benony Robles combined to record the final three outs.
