Loons Win Second Rain Shortened Game of the Week

The game was postponed due to rain in the top of the seventh with Great Lakes leading 5-2 with two on and two out. After a delay, the game was declared official granting the Loons their fourth straight win against Dayton (36-19).
Great Lakes (32-24) put a crooked number on the board in the first inning. Two walks and a single loaded the bases for the Loons and
Kyle Hurt (4-1) gave up a single to lead off the bottom half of the first, but retired the next three with two strikeouts. Hurt left the game due to an injury after tossing his warm up pitches to start the second inning.
The Loons, High-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, got one more against Dayton starter Christian Roa (L, 1-2). Ramos led off the third inning with his fifth home run of the season and extend the Great Lakes lead to 4-0. Roa departed after the third inning. He allowed four earned runs, on three hits and five walks. He stuck out four batters.
The Loon bullpen has been taxed heavily this series with a double header Thursday and an extra inning game on Friday. Kevin Malisheski (W, 1-0) entered the game in the second after Hurt departed. With limited warm up time, Malisheski pitched three scoreless innings only allowing two walks and striking out six Dragons.
Dayton, High-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, got their first runs of the game in the sixth. Julian Smith was in for Great Lakes and gave up two singles to start the inning. Nick Quintana singled home Justice Thompson and Elly De La Cruz to cut the Loons lead in half.
Great Lakes tallied one more in the seventh on an Alex De Jesus solo home run making it 5-2. Ramos and DeLuca reached and the game was delayed with two outs. After a 46-minute delay, the game became official with the Loons victorious 5-2.
Dayton has now lost their first series of the season and has lost four of five to Great Lakes. The series finale is set for 1:05 p.m. on Sunday in Dayton, Ohio. The Loons send Kendall Williams (1-3, 3.56 ERA) and faces Dayton’s starter James Proctor (4-2, 4.54 ERA).
