SUMMARY

The Harrisburg Senators defeated the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 7-2 Friday night at Mirabito Stadium. The Senators struck first with two runs in the first inning and tacked on another in the third. Binghamton got on the board with a run in the fourth inning to make it a 3-1 game. In the top of the ninth inning the Senators extended their lead to 7-1 on a Dérmis Garcia grand slam, and Binghamton would score one more run in the bottom of the ninth for a final score of 7-2.

THE BIG PLAYS

In the top of the ninth inning Dérmis Garcia gave the Senators the insurance runs they were looking for by hitting a grand slam to extend the Senators’ lead to 7-1.

FILIBUSTERS

Robert Hassell III’s home run to lead off the game was the first leadoff homer by a Senator since July 23rd, 2023 when Hassell also led off the game with a homer against Bowie… Dérmis Garcia’s ninth-inning grand slam was the second grand slam of the season for the Senators, and was Garcia’s seventh home run of the year… Andrew Pinckney went 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI… Andrew Alvarez allowed one run on two hits with six strikeouts in five innings; he retired the first nine batters he faced in order… Alvarez improves to 4-2, and the Senators have won his last seven consecutive starts… Senators batters walked 11 times, the most walks for the team in a game this season… The Sens’ lineup left 12 runners on base and went 3-for-14 with runners in scoring position… The Senators went 19-10 in the month of May, the best record of any team in the Eastern League this month.
