HARRISBURG, PA. - The Harrisburg Senators, Double-A affiliate of the 2019 World Series Champion Washington Nationals, in partnership with Minor League Baseball, have announced that the team will participate in the "Copa de la Diversion" or "Fun Cup" campaign in the 2020 season. The "Copa de la Diversion" initiative was started in 2018 with 33 teams to help teams authentically engage with their Hispanic/Latino community. In 2019, the campaign expanded to 72 teams.
For five games during the 2020 season, the Senators will rebrand to "Playeros de Harrisburg." The Playeros identity, which roughly translates to "beachgoers," connects the familial bonding of going to the beach to the importance of family to the Hispanic community. The beach-themed moniker also reflects the team's unique geographical location on City Island.
The rebrand was inspired by collaborating with local members of the Hispanic/Latino community and the Latino Hispanic Professional Association to find a creative and meaningful way to incorporate Hispanic/Latino values and culture.
In March of 2020, the Senators will reveal their Playeros on-field jerseys and caps.
The Senators offices are open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily during the offseason. The 2020 home opener is Thursday, April 16, against the Reading Fightin Phils.
