Wingrove, Simmons Homer in 9-4 Friday Night Win
JERSEY SHORE, NJ - Rixon Wingrove and Kendall Simmons homered and the BlueClaws rolled to their third straight win, 9-4 over Wilmington at ShoreTown Ballpark on Friday night.
JERSEY SHORE, NJ - Rixon Wingrove and Kendall Simmons homered and the BlueClaws rolled to their third straight win, 9-4 over Wilmington at ShoreTown Ballpark on Friday night.
The BlueClaws jumped out to the lead with a five-run second inning. Caey Martin singled in Marcus Lee Sang, who had tripled, for the first run of the game. After Martin was caught stealing, Leandro Pineda grounded out for the second out. But the next six BlueClaws reached. Nick Ward doubled home two and Kendall Simmons followed Ward with a two-run home run to put the BlueClaws up 5-0.
Simmons' home run extended his hitting streak to 13 games, over which he is now 20-52.
They added two more in the third on an RBI single from Wilfredo Flores and RBI groundout from Ward.
Starter Jordan Fowler (3-1) went five innings and allowed two runs on eight hits. He earned his third win of the season. Chase Antle, Carlos Francisco, and Jordi Martinez followed with scoreless innings as well.
Wingrove and Wilfredo Flores each had three hits in the win while Simmons had two. Ward and Simmons drove in three runs apiece.
The teams continue their series on Saturday afternoon at 4:05 pm. RHP Gunner Mayer starts for Jersey Shore.
