EASTLAKE, OH – In the first game of a scheduled six-game series, Los Picantes de Lake County (35-23) defeated the Fort Wayne TinCaps (25-33) by a final score of 1-0 on Tuesday night at Classic Auto Group Park in Eastlake.

Picantes 3B Jose Devers, MLB Pipeline’s No. 19 Cleveland prospect, drove in the game’s only run with a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. This was the 21-year-old’s fifth home run of the season.

In his 12th start of the year, Lake County RHP Austin Peterson (ND) pitched 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and no walks, while throwing six strikeouts in 90 pitches (57 strikes).

Then, RHP Jake Miller (3-2) entered the game out of the Picantes bullpen. After permitting an infield single, Fort Wayne had runners on the corners with two outs in the top of the sixth inning. TinCaps C Ethan Salas, MLB Pipeline’s No. 1 San Diego and No. 5 MLB prospect, hit a line drive to center field, but Lake County CF Jonah Advincula made a diving catch to keep the game scoreless.

Miller ultimately earned his third win of the season, allowing two hits in 1.1 innings of relief. After RHP Jay Driver pitched a perfect eighth inning out of the Picantes bullpen, throwing two strikeouts, RHP Zane Morehouse entered the game in the top of the ninth.

A throwing error from Lake County SS Angel Genao, MLB Pipeline’s No. 11 Cleveland prospect, a walk, and an intentional walk loaded the bases with one out. But TinCaps grounded into a game-ending 4-6-3 double play to seal the Picantes victory, as Morehouse earned his fifth save of the season.

Offensively, all four of Lake County’s hits on the night went for extra bases. In addition to Devers’ solo home run, 2B Alex Mooney, MLB Pipeline’s No. 20 Cleveland prospect, C Cooper Ingle, and Genao each tallied a double.

First pitch for the second game of this week’s scheduled six-game series between the Captains and TinCaps is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. It will be Spectacular Senior Day at the ballpark, presented by Medical Mutual. The game will be broadcast on both the Bally Live app and MiLB.TV, with social media coverage courtesy of @LCCaptains on both X and Instagram.
