Golden Bobblehead Received for LVHN Event

October 17, 2011
The IronPigs were recently awarded a "Golden Bobblehead" for their role as the host of Lehigh Valley Health Network's 15th annual black tie gala, Go Hog Wild at Nite Lites, held at Coca-Cola Park in September 2010. The IronPigs accepted the Best Non-Game Day promotion "Golden Bobblehead" award at the 2011 Minor League Baseball Promotional Seminar in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

"We were tremendously honored to host the Lehigh Valley Health Network's Nite Lites Gala," remarked IronPigs General Manager Kurt Landes. "We are extremely proud of Lehigh Valley Health Network's charitable initiatives and we are grateful that they chose Coca-Cola Park to serve as the backdrop for this noteworthy event."

"We were thrilled to have our premier event at Coca-Cola Park," said Ron Swinfard, MD, Lehigh Valley Health Network's president and CEO. "It was a perfect venue and I was amazed at how many couples went into the outfield for pictures."

Started in 1996 to raise money for pediatric care, Nite Lites continues to be the Lehigh Valley's premier fundraising black tie gala. The annual event attracts more than 1,350 guests from throughout the region. Thanks to the generosity of the community, since it began Nite Lites has raised more than $14 million, including $1.2 million in 2010, in support of the community programs of the Lehigh Valley Health Network.

Additional highlights of the 2010 Nite Lites event hosted at Coca-Cola Park included:

  • On-field cocktail hour and opportunity for guests to have photos taken with Phillies greats Pete Rose and Mike Schmidt. IronPigs' mascot FeRROUS also joined in on the excitement!
  • Lehigh Valley Health Network decorated Coca-Cola Park with giant ice carvings of Coca-Cola Park and baseball-themed hors d'oeuvres and desserts to give guests an additional baseball ambience.
  • The IronPigs Pork Racer mascots did their customary warning track race (Hambone won!) and appeared for photos.
  • A 60-foot "FeRROUS Wheel" located in the parking lot outside of Coca-Cola Park.

The "Golden Bobblehead" award marks the second consecutive year that the IronPigs have been honored during the Minor League Baseball Promotional Seminar. In 2010, the club was honored for "Battlefield Challenge" - the first-ever, all-game encompassing promotion that was selected as Minor League Baseball's best in-game promotion.

Coca-Cola Park and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs have received numerous distinctions since 2008, including Ballpark Digest's "Ballpark of the Year" award and "Best Game Operations and Presentation" award as chosen by gameops.com.

Coca-Cola Park is the ultimate year-round Lehigh Valley venue for all types of special events including social gatherings, business meetings and weddings with an average of over 150 non-baseball events per year.
