The Lynchburg Hillcats split the doubleheader with the Delmarva Shorebirds on Friday afternoon to keep the series even.

Lynchburg took game one 4-0 after a complete game shut out from Alonzo Richardson. In game two, Delmarva would hold the Hillcats bats quiet as they would fall 1-0.

In game one, Lynchburg would score first courtesy of a Ralphy Velazquez RBI single in the gap to plate Esteban Gonzalez. Pitching would be the story from then on as Richardson would rack up seven innings of work only allowing one hit.

It was not until the sixth inning that Lynchburg would finally break through. A sacrifice fly from Jaison Chourio would drive home a run. One batter later, Angel Genao delivered a two-run blast for his fifth home run of the season to put Lynchburg up four.

The Hillcats would hold in the seventh for the first complete game by a Hillcat since June 23rd, 2022, as Jack Leftwich went seven innings in a victory over the Shorebirds to win the first half title.

In game two, pitching was the story yet again. Neither team would allow a run for the first five innings of the ballgame. For the Hillcats, Kyle Scott would go four innings of shutout baseball while Braxton Bragg would do the same for the Shorebirds.

In the sixth inning, Lynchburg would surrender three walks in the frame, allowing Anderson De Los Santos to drive home a run with a sacrifice fly.

That would be all they would need as Lynchburg would leave the bases loaded in the seventh inning after a great diving play by Delmarva ended the ballgame.

Lynchburg and Delmarva will face off on Saturday for game five of the series with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Bank of the James Stadium. Tickets are available at Lynchburg-hillcats.com.
