MEMPHIS, TN – The Memphis Redbirds began a three-game series against the Gwinnett Stripers with a 10-5 win at AutoZone Park on Friday night.
After falling behind 2-0 after the top of the first inning, Memphis exploded for eight runs in the bottom half of the inning. In total, the Redbirds brough 11 batters to the plate, recorded six hits and walked twice without stranding a runner on base.
Shortstop Masyn Winn scored twice in the first inning, including his 11th home run of the season. The right-handed hitter clubbed a three-run shot with two outs in the inning to make it 8-2. Third baseman Taylor Motter reached base three times in a 2-for-3 effort, scored twice, stole a base and drove in a run.
In a bullpen day on the mound, Kodi Whitley and Dalton Roach tossed the final three innings without allowing a run. Grant Black (1-3) tossed 2.1 innings and earned his first win of the season.
MLB Rehabber Tyler O’Neill went 2-for-4 in the win with an RBI and run scored.
