Robberse dominates Stripers to even series 

Memphis starter strikes out nine batters, allows one run in eight innings

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Redbirds continued a six-game road trip with a 4-1 win at the Gwinnett Stripers on Friday night at Coolray Field. MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Redbirds continued a six-game road trip with a 4-1 win at the Gwinnett Stripers on Friday night at Coolray Field.

Right-handed pitcher Sem Robberse (3-0) continued his dominant start to the 2024 season. The starting pitcher tossed a career-high 8.0 innings of one-run (zero earned) baseball. Robberse allowed one hit, walked two and tied a career high with nine strikeouts.

With the outing, Robberse is now tied for the league lead in innings pitched (22.2), wins (3) and win percentage (1.000). He is also top-10 in ERA (2nd, 1.59), strikeouts (tied-4th, 23), batting average against (tied-7th, .192) and WHIP (4th, 0.93).

Second baseman Jose Fermin also continued his hot 2024. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a walk and a home run to lead off the ball game. Fermin now leads the International League in batting average (.392) and is top-10 in several other categories.

Shortstop Thomas Saggese crushed second home run of the season and finished the night 1-for-4 with a walk. Third baseman Cesar Prieto and first baseman Alfonso Rivas III each added an RBI. Seven of the nine Memphis batters reached base safely, five of which reached base at least twice.

The Memphis Redbirds return to AutoZone Park to begin a six-game series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Triple-A, Miami Marlins) on Tuesday, April 23 with first pitch for 6:45 p.m. CDT.
