Wisconsin Powers Way to Series Finale Win

PEORIA, IL– The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers defeated the Peoria Chiefs 14-6 on Sunday afternoon at Dozer Park. Wisconsin took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after a wild pitch from Peoria starter Inohan Paniagua. The Chiefs answered in the second after Leonardo Bernal hit a solo home run

PEORIA, IL– The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers defeated the Peoria Chiefs 14-6 on Sunday afternoon at Dozer Park.

Wisconsin took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after a wild pitch from Peoria starter Inohan Paniagua. The Chiefs answered in the second after Leonardo Bernal hit a solo home run to right field. Following the homer, Osvaldo Tovalin doubled and Dakota Harris singled. Anyelo Encarnacion brought in Tovalin with a sacrifice fly and Luis Rodriguez grounded out to score Harris and make the score 3-1.

The Timber Rattlers responded in the third with a run from Luis Lara. In the bottom half, Won-Bin Cho and Zach Levenson both singled. Bernal scored Cho to give the Chiefs a 4-2 lead. Equarqui Fernandez made it a one run game with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Rodriguez singled and advanced to second in the bottom half. Darlin Moquete brought Rodriguez home with a single to make the score 5-3.

In the fifth inning, Dylan O’Rae led off the inning with a single off reliever Wilfredo Pereira. Lara walked and they both stole bags to advance. Gregory Barrios plated O’Rae and Luke Adams doubled to tie the game 5-5. The Chiefs took the lead back in the bottom of the fifth. Bernal was hit by a pitch and Tovalin singled to advance him to third. Harris gave Peoria a lead after he laid down a bunt to score Bernal.

Following the fifth, Wisconsin scored nine unanswered runs in the remaining four innings. Starter Edwin Jimenez went five innings to earn his fourth win of the season. Paniagua surrendered three runs in four innings in his start. Reliever Nathanel Heredia took the loss after he yielded two runs, one earned, in the sixth.

The Chiefs will go on the road on Tuesday to face Cedar Rapids at 6:35 p.m. Left-hander Brycen Mautz will start for Peoria.
