Kennedy hurls 5.1 scoreless innings for Sea Dogs

Portland, Maine – Brett Kennedy tossed 5.1 scoreless innings for the Portland Sea Dogs (47-50, 17-11), but a ninth-inning homer ended the pitcher’s duel with a 1-0 loss to the Erie SeaWolves (57-39, 18-9) on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field.

Both teams started the game scoreless. Erie starting pitcher Wilmer Flores worked through 4.0 scoreless innings, striking out five before giving way to the bullpen. Portland starter Brett Kennedy spun 5.1 scoreless innings, limiting Erie to three hits and two walks while striking out four before ending his night.

The only score of the night came against Sea Dogs reliever Jake Wallace in the top of the ninth inning. With one out, Parker Meadows launched a solo homer over the wall in right. It was his ninth long ball of the season and gave the SeaWolves the first lead of the game, 1-0. Portland went down in order in the bottom of the ninth, dropping the series opener to Erie, 1-0.

Elvis Alvarado (2-0, 0.00 ERA) picked up the win, tossing 2.0 perfect innings with two strikeouts. Wallace (1-2, 5.20 ERA) was given the loss, pitching 2.0 innings, allowing one run on one hit, and striking out two.

The Sea Dogs and SeaWolves play the second game of a six-game series on Wednesday at Hadlock Field with a 6:00 PM first pitch. Portland sends RHP Victor Santos (7-7, 4.82 ERA) to the mound against Erie RHP Chance Kirby (7-3, 2.48 ERA).
