Castellanos named Eastern League Player of the Week

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs’ first baseman/ outfielder Pedro Castellanos has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of June 13-19.

Castellanos hit a league-best .429 (12-for-28) in six games during the week with two runs scored, two doubles, a home run, and five RBI.

The 24-year-old has a 16-game hit streak, the longest streak in the league this season. During the streak, Castellanos has hit at a .397 clip. He also has a 21-game on-base streak dating back to May 27th. Castellanos also compiled a 13-game hit streak earlier in the season from May 6-22.

In 58 games this season, Castellanos leads the club in average (.283), hits (65), doubles (16), home runs (8), RBI (42), slugging percentage (.465), OPS (.772), extra base hits (25), and total bases (107). He has a team-high 15 multi-hit games and 11 multi-RBI games.

Castellanos spent the entire 2021 season with the Sea Dogs, where he hit .289 in 87 games and 13 home runs.

The Red Sox signed the Carora, Lara, VZ native as an international free agent on July 2, 2015.

Castellanos is the first Sea Dogs player to earn Eastern League Player of the Week honors this season. Sea Dogs’ pitchers Victor Santos and Brayan Bello each earned Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors earlier this season. Santos for the week of May 30-June 5 and Bello for the week of May 2-8.

The Sea Dogs start a six-game series with the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Tuesday night in Richmond, Virginia. The team returns home for a six-game set with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats June 28-July 3. The homestand is highlighted by Margaritaville Night (June 30), Maine Red Snappers (July 1), and Fireworks on July 3.
