Trio of 2023 Sea Dogs selected to All-Star Futures Game

Marcello Mayer, Nick Yorke, and Shane Drohan headed to Seattle for prestigious game

Portland, Maine- Three members of the 2023 Portland Sea Dogs have been selected to participate in the 2023 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. Sea Dogs’ infielders Marcello Mayer and Nick Yorke along with pitcher Luis Guerrero will participate in the prestigious event. The game will be held on Saturday, July 8th

Portland, Maine- Three members of the 2023 Portland Sea Dogs have been selected to participate in the 2023 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. Sea Dogs’ infielders Marcello Mayer and Nick Yorke along with pitcher Luis Guerrero will participate in the prestigious event. The game will be held on Saturday, July 8th at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington.

Mayer is the Red Sox top prospect and the #5 prospect in Minor League Baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. Mayer joined the Sea Dogs on May 30th after hitting .290 with seven home runs and 34 RBI in 35 games. Since joining the Sea Dogs the 20-year-old has belted five home runs with 13 RBI in 21 games. The Chula Vista, California native was the Red Sox first-round draft pick (4th overall) in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft.

Yorke is the Red Sox #5 prospect and #91 in Minor League Baseball. In 60 games with the Sea Dogs this season he is hitting .286 with 9 home runs and 33 RBI. The 21-year-old leads the team in runs (47), SLG (.475), and OPS (.852). The Newport Beach, California native was the Red Sox first-round draft pick (17th overall) in the 2020 First-Year Player Draft.

Guerrero replaces Shane Drohan on the roster. Guerrero has produced a 3-1 record with 13 saves and 1.19 ERA in 26 games this season. He was selected by the Red Sox in the 17th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft.

The seven-inning contest will be played in a National League vs. American League format and will air exclusively on Peacock and SiriusXM. This year’s group of 50 Futures Gamers features 28 prospects on MLB Pipeline’s newly updated Top 100 list.

Among those serving as coaches at the Futures Game are former Major League All-Stars and Mariners legends Adrián Beltré, Jay Buhner, Mike Cameron, Alvin Davis, Félix Hernández, Jamie Moyer, Dan Wilson and former Sea Dog Randy Winn.

Among the past Sea Dogs participants of the Futures Game include Kevin Youkilis (2003), Hanley Ramirez (2005), Clay Buchholz (2007), Will Middlebrooks (2011), Andrew Benintendi (2016), Rafael Devers (2017), Brayan Bello (2021), and Ceddanne Rafaela (2022).
