Rancho Cucamonga, CA - With Opening Day just three days away for the defending Cal League Champion Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, the Los Angeles Dodgers have released a preliminary roster in advance of the Quakes' regular season opener in Stockton on Thursday.
A total of 16 former Quakes, including 15 from last year's championship club, will open the year in Rancho Cucamonga.
Connor Wong, Stevie Berman, Brandon Montgomery, Nick Yarnall, Donovan Casey, Jeren Kendall and Carlos Rincon, will be joined by returning arms Leo Crawford, Max Gamboa, Ryan Moseley, Wills Montgomerie, Logan Salow, Sven Schueller, Jordan Sheffield and Edwin Uceta.
Headlining the non-returners is infielder Jeter Downs, who was acquired from the Reds as part of the trade that sent Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp, Kyle Farmer and Alex Wood to Cincinnati this past offseason. Downs, who spent last year at Dayton of the Midwest League, is rated by MLB Pipeline as the Dodgers #8 overall prospect.
Wong is the top-rated prospect among the returners, as he checks in at #14 to open the year. Other members of this year's club ranked by MLB Pipeline include former second-round pitcher Michael Grove (#15), Kendall (#16), starting pitcher Gerardo Carillo (#19) and Uceta (#21).
Left-handed reliever Wes Helsabeck, who has seen time in Rancho Cucamonga in 2015, 2016 and 2017, will open the year in the Rancho bullpen.
Filling out the pitching staff is left-handed starter Bryan Warzek and lefty reliever Victor Gonzalez.
The remaining position players include catcher Jordan Procyshen, infielders Marcus Chiu, Deacon Liput, Devin Mann and outfielders Starling Heredia and Brayan Morales.
The Dodgers will need to make some official roster moves before finalizing the roster prior to opening day, as two players are expected to open the year on the Injured List.
Thursday's opener can be heard live from Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton, by tuning into Mike Lindskog on the new radio home of your Quakes, NewsTalk AM 1290 or by downloading the iHeartRadio app on your smart phone. All regular season games can also be heard on the Tune-In Radio app.
