Lake Elsinore, CA – The Quakes absorbed their most lop-sided shutout defeat in franchise history on Thursday night, as the Lake Elsinore Storm rocked Rancho by a final score of 18-0.
The shutout loss is the third of the year for the Quakes, as they’ve now dropped two of three in the series against the Storm.
Lake Elsinore belted five home runs, one of which was an inside-the-park job by Samuel Zavala, who had two on the night. Kai Murphy hit two long-balls, while Griffin Doersching added a two-run shot.
Rancho starter Gabe Emmett (5-3) struggled through three innings, allowing eight runs in the loss.
Lake Elsinore starter Henry Baez (5-2) enjoyed his best game of the year, tossing five shutout innings in the win.
Rancho had just five hits on the night, as both Jose Izarra and Simon Reid had two hits each.
The Quakes (10-11, 49-38) will send Peter Heubeck (2-5) to the mound on Friday, as the Storm will counter with Henry Williams (1-4) at 7:15pm.
