San Jose, CA – One night after clinching a playoff spot, Rancho’s momentum kept on rolling on Sunday afternoon, as the Quakes downed the San Jose Giants, winning a 5-3 decision at Excite Ballpark.

The win over the Giants gives Rancho a nice bounce-back series, as after dropping five of six to Modesto to open their 12-game road trip, the Quakes took four out of six over the team with the best record in the Cal League.

Luis Rodriguez and Nick Biddison had two hits each and Kyle Nevin (5) blasted his third homer of the series, as Rancho won their third straight game overall.

Gabe Emmett allowed just one run over 4.1 innings, but it was reliever Livan Reinoso (2-1) who got the win with 1.1 innings of scoreless work.

Kelvin Bautista retired the last batter of the game to earn his second save, as the Giants tallied a run in the ninth and loaded the bases, but left the tying runs in scoring position. San Jose left a total of 15 men on base.

The Quakes (37-26) will take a day off on Monday, then return home to face Lake Elsinore on Tuesday night. Payton Martin (1-0) will take on Lake Elsinore left-hander Austin Krob in Tuesday’s opener at 6:30pm.

Rancho (36-26) wins their first First-Half South Crown since 2019. On Sunday, they’ll try to win the series with the Giants, by sending Gabe Emmett (4-2) to the mound, opposite Jack Choate (3-0) at 1pm in the finale.

Tuesday is a Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday, as fans can pledge to recycle 10 CRV-eligible bottles and cans. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
