Lake Elsinore, CA – The Quakes wrapped up the first half of California League play on Thursday night in Lake Elsinore, dropping a 13-8 decision to the Storm at The Diamond.
Rancho starter Huei-Sheng Lin (1-1) suffered the setback on the hill, as he struggled through just 2.2 innings, allowing a season-high seven runs on seven hits.
Lake Elsinore slugged a pair of second-inning homers to grab the early lead, as both Albert Fabian and Juan Zabala would go deep as the Storm took a 3-0 advantage.
Trailing 7-0 in the fourth, Rancho would put three on the board, then add three more in the sixth, pulling to within a run at 7-6.
The Storm put it away in the bottom of the sixth though, scoring five times off the Rancho bullpen to take a commanding 12-6 lead.
Kenneth Betancourt paced the Quakes with three hits and four RBIs, while Luis Rodriguez, who had three hits in Wednesday’s win, chipped in with two hits and three runs scored.
Storm reliever Hazahel Quijada (3-0) earned the win in relief.
The Quakes finish the first half at 36-30, four full games behind Lake Elsinore overall. Rancho will send Ronan Kopp (3-2) to the hill on Friday, as he takes on Garrett Hawkins of the Storm at 7:05pm.
