Rancho Cucamonga, CA – Just one night after having a huge ninth-inning letdown, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes rebounded with a scoreless ninth, holding off the Modesto Nuts to earn a 9-6 victory on Wednesday night at LoanMart Field.
Kelvin Bautista struck out three of four hitters in the ninth, helping Rancho to win their first game of the six-game series and end their two-game losing streak.
Dalton Rushing popped a go-ahead homer in the third, giving Rancho a 4-2 lead, thanks to his third homer since joining the team.
Joel Ibarra (2-2) would pick up the win for the Quakes, firing three innings of relief, allowing just one run on one hit.
Yeiner Fernandez also homered for Rancho, his eighth of the year, finishing the game with two hits and two RBIs against Modesto starter Joseph Hernandez (7-5).
Jake Vogel had a big hit for the Quakes as well, as his two-run single in the seventh put Rancho up by six, at 9-3, giving them some additional insurance at the end of the game.
Rancho (22-22, 58-52) will send Peter Heubeck (0-0) to the mound on Thursday night, as he’ll take on Modesto’s Adrian Quintana (0-3) at 6:30pm.
